What was a surprising/interesting thing in this lectorial that prompted you to reflect?

The article “Hyper and Deep Attention: The Generational Divide in Cognitive Modes.” – N.Katherine Hayles” exploring the generational shift in cognitive styles and the challenges it creates for learning institutions, prompted reflection of the type of attention one would regard themselves with and in what scenarios it is evident. Examples such as watching the tv while surrounded by other distractions and how focused one is in completing a specific activity such as reading or writing leads to reflection of the transition of attention from generation to generation.

The article was interesting in the way that it allowed me to reflect on how influential the media is on an individual and what the effects are, especially in terms of cognitive styles. I encouraged me to think about how aware I am of my own behaviour, the way I go about things and how I interact with it.
