Wiki wot

This week there was a link to wikipedia which freaked me out because all I have ever been taught in school and at uni was that wikipedia is the devil. Once I got over my initial shock of this travesty, I began to read the wiki page. It spoke of many interesting things that didn’t interest me particularly, but it made admittedly one good point that I haven’t really thought about closely so far in the course. It speak about ‘social software’ and the ‘community formation’ that has developed in light of the internet. Online communities vary from one to one (email, IM), one to many (blogging, V-logs, websites) and many to many (wiki). It goes on to speak about the realness of these platforms which got me thinking about just how life would be if we didn’t have them. Ya’ll know that I’m a hater thats gonna hate on the internet, but these systems really have created important communities. Whilst I would disagree with the ‘realness’ and authenticity of the online world that fact that it provides an abundance of good amongst the bad is irrefutable. The internet does not exclude, it is a platform that invites everyone to be a part of it and have an degree of control in the way they wish to use it.

ohmygosh I hate todays blog posts.
I encourage you to read these if you can’t get to sleep one night. Because they will do the job.
