“What is Love?”

A few questions were raised in our class on Thursday, my personal favourite being “what is love?”
However relevant to life, it wasn’t entirely relevant to this course about hypertext and the internet and stuff (?), but the most interesting Q I found was the idea of blogging being a form of narcissism.
For those who don’t know, narcism is basically just self obsession and vanity- in Greek mythology Narcissus fell in love with his own reflection (all been there am I right sisters?) and died because he fell into the water or something. I don’t know the specifics but you get the general picture.
So is blogging a form of narcissism?
hmmm yes and no.
I think the content of the blog itself will largely determine whether its purpose is to promote the self or aid others in some way.
Blogs like diary entires recording daily events and the souls response to them are arguably narcissistic, but also can be therapeutic for the author in the same way running is a source of release for me, little geo. This form of blog is about the self and is consequently indulgent- but does that matter? I wouldn’t have thought so- a little self love and reflection by putting thoughts in to words definitely allows a sense of clarity within the mind and I don’t think this can be a bad thing.
This also makes a small town gal question what is classified as a blog- do Instagram or Facebook qualify? They too are in their most basic forms just recordings of life events in an online fashion- and as I have argued in a previous bloggy p, are massively self obsessed.
Blogs can be about the self and as a result are a lil narcissistic, but I certainly don’t think they set out to hurt anyone and a lot of the time they are created with the benefit of others in mind- food blogs, art blogs, comedy blogs whatevaaaa- they each provide internet explorers an avenue to explore themselves too and that can’t be all bad.
Love your face because it has mouth,
Gee love me King
