Manovich writes about how new media is still linear. We’re constantly limited by the size of our screen, and we’re only presented with information “one screen at a time”. So is this any different from more traditional media such as a printed book? In order to continue reading, we need to turn the page; in order to continue exploring, we need to click on another link or scroll.
I’m interested in how media makers can overcome the rectangular boundaries of a computer screen and create something more porous. Is it even possible?
This is mostly what I took out of the reading, while a lot of the rest (technical jargon) went a bit over my head.
