A funny name for a microphone I first thought – a zoom usually references a camera lens. Today we had far too much fun learning about these tools and how to put them to their best use for our next project briefs. Walking around we were asked to record sounds such as speaking, water running, footsteps and general atmospheric noises. The proximity to which you stand from the sound is what I found made the biggest difference, too close and it would be distorted while too far away and echo’s start to take over. I particularly enjoyed recording sounds such as the tram, because the sound alone tells a whole story. The bells before the tram stops, doors opening, footsteps and myki cards. I can’t wait to be using this in my own work!
Some of my first recordings can be heard here
