Project Brief 2 – Final

This is my final piece for my second project brief for my Media 1 class. I actually really enjoyed this assignment because it got me thinking about different ways to express myself. By being restricted to creating a 1 minute clip for our ‘self portraits’ I had a difficult time picking which part of my personality I wanted to convey. In the end I tried to mix a few things together creating a sort of “journey” piece. I’ve used hard cuts to try and convey the sharp confusion and confliction that I often feel. To juxtapose those harsh cuts I’ve used images of beautiful places by the beach and in the bush, to show the serenity I feel when I am at home and at piece.

I found that using the program, Adobe Premier, was also quite challenging. Having never used technology like this before, it was initially quite difficult to get my head around. However, I feel like I have a bit more of an understanding now of the kinds of things you can do with the program and how you can create something spectacular.

I was amazed at just how much I enjoyed being a “media producer”. In the past, I have always been more of a consumer, always enjoying different media platforms made by other people. As it was completely new and uncharted territory I felt like I was chucked in the deep end a bit, but it was an interesting learning process. I found myself thinking about this assignment and what to put in it all the time. I’d be out to lunch with friends and see something and think “ooh! That’s a good idea for my assignment!”. But I still can’t help but think I was restricted by my lack of knowledge of the program I was using. Although I know that in time my skills with Adobe Premier will only get better and then who knows what I can create!

Overall this assignment has been a huge learning curve. I have not only learnt how to use an editing program to create a video but I’ve also learnt what editing is and how it can affect the audience.

So here is my video, Driving me, I hope you enjoy!
