Introduction

As someone who does not have much experience in blogging, whether it be educational or personal, I am unsure how to begin. The balance between formal and informal writing in order to draw an audience in while still making a clear point is going to be continuously difficult for me to find. I am glad, however, that blogs are so interconnected. Being able to observe other blogs will be extremely helpful in creating a communications ‘network’. This concept of the interactivity of blogs and other media sources was introduced to me in an article written by Adrian Miles.  He observed that, if used correctly, blogs can be a highly beneficial and constructive learning tool.

Miles not only discussed what a blog is and what it includes (a clarification I found myself needing) but also the idea of finding our public ‘voice’. As a blog is written with the intention of being read, it differs from a personal journal in the sense that it becomes much more formal. But not so formal that it meets academic writing standards. So where does that leave me? Lost somewhere between the formal and informal, trying to be funny and engaging as well as educational and reflective. Even writing this, my internal voice is saying “this is so dry.. and does it even make sense?”

I must remember that this is all a process. My blog will (hopefully) improve with time and I cannot put too much pressure on myself from the beginning. My main goals for the moment is to try and understand and share media relevant content.  Which is a stupidly broad goal, I know. I hope to use this space to reflect on and summerise what I am learning through my own journey exploring the media industry. And hopefully, with perhaps a little magic, I will develop an “online persona” which will be both charming and intelligent..

Until then,
