NEW SEMESTER – FINAL YEAR – AIMS

The summer just gone has been the least stressful of my university life. Rather than spending months worrying about a place to live, I have been settled in a new location since December. I enjoyed the break, but for once I am fully refreshed and ready the new year, due to a week spent in Airlie Beach. It was amazing. I made sure to take a lot of videos and photos with the intention of using them for something in this class.

Ways of Making was my first studio preference, I was drawn to it because of the practicality that it offered. Paul has an obvious passion for film and learning by doing. I want to learn to film technically sound footage, so that I have the ability to create professional looking videos with professional equipment – a desired skill in the industry. Consequently, knowing the correct techniques will allow me to experiment with and push the boundaries of film and photography for my own personal use, something I spent portions of my holidays doing. One week in, I believe I have made the right choice.

I get the feeling that this course will predominantly focus on editing techniques, with emphasis on creating by having loose ideas of the final product. I have struggled with motivation in the past, not knowing where or how to start a project. I am hoping this class will develop new strategies for creating, particularly where to begin. There is a good group of people in the class and I am excited to collaborate with them as well.
