SIPFEST IS CALLIING FOR ENTRIES IN 2013

Sip some cinema at SIPfest,  a night under the star of Surfers Paradise watching mini-movies from Australia’s best emerging film making talent. Surfers Paradise Festival is proud to announce the return of the Shorts in Paradise Film Festival (SIPfest) to the 2013 festival program.

Set in the heart of Queensland’s Surfers Paradise,  SIPFEST encourages filmmakers from around Australia to submit their short films to the festival judges,  who are looking for cinematic masterpieces under 10 minutes in length. SIPfest films cover any genre: thriller,  comedy,  animation,  documentary,  drama… if it entertains an audience,  we want it in the mix. As the festival plays to a broad audience, we are looking for films that would earn nothing higher than an M rating.

Live judging will take place at the outdoor screening in Surfers Paradise on Saturday April 13th. SIPFest will be the closing event of a day long street party in Surfers Paradise,  with the night to feature live music,  food stalls and market shops in addition to the program of shorts films. Finalist filmmakers have the chance to not only have their film play to a large outdoor audience,  but will also be in the running for prizes awarded in the categories of Best Film,  Runner-Up,  Directing,  Cinematography,  Editing and Audience Choice. The SIPfest prize pool comprises cash and industry prizes,  including a Best Film prize of $2, 500 cash.

Entries are now open for the second annual Shorts in Paradise Film Festival (SIPFest),  part of the 2013 Surfers Paradise Festival. Submissions from across Australia are welcome. MIM is an exclusive showcase for Melbourne filmmakers and short films that are ‘Made in Melbourne’.  The festival celebrates the desire, drive, and diversity of our local film community by screening the very best short films Melbourne has to offer.  Check out the promo below:

Last year the festival was a great success, running over three big nights, showcasing local films to almost 500 people at the beautiful Astor Theatre, as well as DV8, and the laid-back Great Northern Hotel.  We highlighted a great range of talent and encouraged crowd interaction by hosting Q & A with the filmmakers and allowing the audience to decide the winners.  Now even more is in store for 2012 – more films, more fun, more sensational local shorts!

Plus more prizes and accolades will once again be up for grabs including $1000 in cold hard cash to the ‘Best Film’.  The Entry Form plus all the details are available on the website:

Show Me Shorts Film Festival

After five years as New Zealand’s leading film festival, Show Me Shorts is going global this year with the addition of a new, out of competition international category. For the first time, entries are open to short films from outside of New Zealand and Australia. The Canberra Short Film Festival

The 16th annual Canberra Short Film Festival is one of Australia’s premier film competitions and the meeting place for our hottest short filmmakers. 2 years ago, one of our Official Selection, Miracle Fish ,has netted several international awards and an Academy Award nomination.
This year’s Festival will run at Dendy Cinemas over three glittering nights during Floriade from Friday 16th September through Sunday 18th September. Cash prizes (up to $1,500) will be awarded in four categories –National Schools, Grass – Roots, Emerging and Practising. There is also a People’s Choice award in each category.

3. Emerging Competition
This category is intended to showcase the works of emerging film-makers – primarily film-makers with more than 4 years experience but who have not yet made the industry their main profession. The prize of $1500 cash is given to the Producer of the Best Film (Emerging Competition)

• Director or Producer have more than 4 years experience in the production industry (including related tertiary studies)
• Director and Producer have not drawn a significant part of their wage from the production industry during the previous 12 months

CELEBRATING THE BEST SHORT FILMS FROM YOUNG AND EMERGING FILMMAKERS ACROSS VICTORIA

Celebrating its sixth year in 2011, theHillside Film Festival is calling for entries from Victoria’s most promising young filmmakers. The festival is a fantastic opportunity for your students to present films on the big screen in front of a large audience, be viewed by the highly esteemed professionals on the judging panel, and win some excellent prizes along the way!

The Hillside Film Festival is a vibrant, supportive, and critically engaged celebration of film culture. It focuses on showcasing exceptional short films by emerging young filmmakers based in Victoria (aged under 30), and provides Australia’s next generation of filmmakers with cinematic exposure and vital industry networking. The Hillside Film Festival is a not for profit event, and functions due to the generoussupport of our major partners – Cameo Cinemas, Burrinja Community Cultural Centre, Shire of Yarra Ranges and the Bendigo Bank. Taking place in Belgrave at Cameo’s picturesque Outdoor Cinema in February 2011, it will be a film event not to be missed.

The Hillside Film Festival provides an opportunity for students to connect with their peers and to share their creative work and ideas. This event gives students invaluable experience of film festival processes, and we are delighted to announce that ourjudges for 2011 include industry esteemed Glendyn Ivin, and Paul Harris.Glendyn Ivin has carried off the Palme D’Or for Short Film at the Cannes Film Festival for his dramatic work ‘Cracker bag’. Paul Harris has directed the St. Kilda Film Festival since 1999, and is a film critic who appears on radio stations 3RRR and 3AW. Known for his vast knowledge of film, music and theatre he has fronted the radio showFilmbuff’s Forecastsince 1982.

 

This year filmmakers will be competing for a stack of cash and awards, including a $1,000 cash prize, a prize pack from Madman Entertainment and the Under 18 Category entrants are also in to win a place in Open Channel’s Under 18 training program. Selected films will also feature on the small screen, presented on Foxtel’s Aurora Community Channel as part of Youth Week 2011.

With your help and contribution the Hillside Film Festival will continue to support and foster creative storytelling from the youth of Victoria, and provide your students with an invaluable chance to take part in Victoria’s biggest and best film festival for youth.

2011 West End Film Festival (WEFF)

The 2011 West End Film Festival (WEFF) is currently accepting Australian short films from all genres. The deadline is 31 December 2010. Entry is free. Entry forms available at www.westendfilmfestival.com.au.

An awards ceremony and gala event will take place 27 March 2011 at the Rumpus Cinema, West End. All films will be in the running for cash prizes. The inaugural 2010 festival had sell out sessions with a total audience of around 800.
