Intellectual Property Video Competition

Hi Paul, I thought I would send you a quick email to see how you and your students were going with the Hard Sell video competition, and to pass on some inspiration and hints and tips for your students. Mick in the Marketing team has had a go at creating his own video commercial to prove that you don’t need a lot of money, equipment or time to shoot an effective 60 second commercial about Intellectual Property (IP). Mick shot his video in a weekend using only a digital camera and a tripod. His mates did the acting and his dad did the voice over. To view Mick’s video and his hints and tips on creating a quality video, check out the Hard Sell webpage.

ONE80PROJECT – 180 second drama

I am wanting to touch base with you in regards to ONE80PROJECT,  a wonderful initiative that  really gives a leg up to aspiring film makers as well as supporting Australian television drama! Just to give you a brief overview, the One80Project in conjunction with MTV is a national competition where entrants submit a 180 second drama pilot in which gets judged by a panel of industry professionals (past named have included Sam Neil, Teresa Palmer, Joel and Nash Edgerton, Noah Taylor), developed into a fully fledged production and ultimately aired on MTV Australia.

Attached is an overview of the project, feel free to check out our website www.one80project.com.au

MTV are really passionate about this initiative, and are ecstatic by its growth over the last 4 years. Now in its 5th year, we are excited about taking it to new heights and making it the best yet.

The competition officially opens from October 15, however we are hoping to lock in presentation dates from September 27.

Opportunity for student writers

My name is Kim Heras, I’m the editor of The Next Web Australia – the local arm of the global The Next Web tech blog network
I was wondering if you had any other students who would be interested in doing some guest writing for the blog.

It wouldn’t be a paid gig but there are a bunch of reasons why it might be a great opportunity
1. Opportunity to cross post their stories to the main The Next Web network which receives about 3 Million unique views /month
2. Chance to get introduced to key companies/people in the Australian tech scene
3. Opportunity to build up a portfolio of real stories on a leading global tech blog network
4. Experience in what it’s like to have to identify stories and produce them in a timely manner

Of course this would be perfect for students who have a specific interest in technology but then again we cover companies like Google/Microsoft/Apple/The Australian Government etc. all of which any of your students will probably be familiar with.

Student Contest: Calling all storytellers, animators and filmmakers

We are currently looking for submissions for a contest hosted by jovoto, that could be of great interest to your students. Hence I hope you can tell me how to provide them with information, or even spread the word yourself.

jovoto is an online community that links creative talent worldwide and provides space for an ideation process which is free, collaborative and, above all, fair. It’s initiation was triggered by the perception that in creative industries young talents often have the weakest standpoints, while the entire sector profits from their ideas. Thus, their main goal is to connect people who have ideas to people who need ideas – in a way that satisfies both of them and doesn’t benefit just one party.

This contest, initiated by PayPal, carries a first prize of $5,000 with a further $15,000 being distributed amongst the 19 runners up. Any idea put into production is licensed for a further $2,500. Although some challenges are public, this particular challenge is private. If your students would like to submit anything (ideas, sketches, skits, storyboards or films), please tell them to contact me at nsonne@jovoto.com with samples of their work and I will invite you to the private layer.
