HTML AKA THE DEVIL

I always bully my boyfriend Max about studying computer science. While he does adhere to correct hygiene standards, doesn’t have oily hair and doesn’t spend 24 hours a day (maybe only 23) with his computer, he still looooooves coding.

I never understood code, and when he speaks about it, I zone out and reply any questions he asks about his work with “So your a nerd”.

It is at this point, upon entering the dark abyss of Week 4 and the HTML test looming, that I regret not listening to the nerdy boy speak.

What might be the point of learning some very (very) basic HTML?

Ask Adrian and you shall receive!

Wordpress makes it easy for us to write things, while it does all the work. It automatically makes it look pretty, formatted and an all round working blog.

An understanding of HTML, makes us, mere, little students think for ourselves. YEP TEACHERS LOVE THAT! But honestly it has helped. I can now manually develop basic links and insert media using some HTML code, and by that test hopefully develop a basic page.

But it goes beyond this. I suddenly have this fire within me to learn about the inner workings of servers and social media sites. How do these things work? How does my post zoom around from my computer and end up in the facebookasphere? The more I learn, the scarier it gets, because I am oblivious to so much.

Internet and especially social media sites are created to be convenient and easy to use. But this is also making us dumb. We have to have some understanding to comprehend a “new” way of communication. We know how to speak and write because we have to in order to survive in society. Maybe one day HTML will become just as common place, and we will all be one step ahead.

Thinking for ourselves. Thats why.
