Rethinking the video and soundscape from Offenburg

The next due day is next Tuesday, it is on the way, so quick.

I have seen the video they made lots of times, and listened to the soundscape. You know that we need to make a 1 min video response to the new soundscape, plus a new soundscape. So totally at the end it is a 3 mins file. Unfortunately, they didn’t record the list in their soundscape, although I can roughly imagine that what stuffs make those sounds, I want to get a 100% answer.

The original theme, or I mean the location, is kitchen. Yeah, how lucky(really?), same to our first soundscape we made. The video is about someone eating in a place, like restaurant. Not only eating, but drinking. They spent lots of time on (food) in the plate, and some related stuffs that people carry with, such as water glass cup, tissue, coffee. I am so sorry that I can’t completed understand the meaning, and the thing that they pick out of the kitchen.

Remember what Adrian said, we should focus more, narrow more, on the thing. ‘Treat the thing as a thing.’ So how can I understand the soundscape well, pick out a thing from their soundscape.

I have to say, this article is really interesting. It refresh my brain and ideology system.

In our discussion, I record some questions, and want to post them here.

#1 can’t really understand the sentence under the ‘Sky, earth and the weather, ‘between mind and nature, persons and things, and agency and materiality, no conceptual space remains for those very real phenomena and transformations of the medium that generally go by the name of weather.’

#2 just in the above sentence, what are the differences between things, agency, and materiality?? Maybe plus one, the medium.

Just roughly finished the reading, the only feeling and feedback I have is: Interesting, but can’t totally understand well.

Until now, what I get from the article:

Author give us a new view to observe the physical relationship that actually have been proved by scientists. Like the sun, sea, whether…

However, I do think I need to reread the article again.

The renew of Materialism, Onto-cartography

In this very interesting article, I have to say that It took me hard to understand, to a large extent, what the author wants to present.

Author, at the beginning, criticizes the current materialism. As he says that the materialism now is narrow, and only concerning about the physical stuff and discursive. His key idea is that matter, here he mentions, he made up of ‘stuff’ and ‘things’. Stuff means physical stuff that is materialist as people recognized. About the ‘things’, as the author says, is something invisible, recognized by people’s brain. Yep, the relations between machines.

Today, we back from the Easter break, most of everyone had a good holiday.

Today was my turn to bought some food for the afternoon tea, bread, grapes and an Asian snake. But it was seems like that many of them were not interested in the Asian snake I bought, a little disappointed. I understand it, after all, to them that snake is unknown to them.

Talking about the ‘movie moment’, we enjoy every groups projects, and wrote comments and thinking. I found out that this time, the each videos is improved, to a large extent. Personally, I am very interested in the one named ‘revolution’, am I said in current way? However, Adrian said to us that our videos and audios are not narrow enough, I though they are. Anyway, we will get better next time.

Just remind about my group video, which is done by me. I don’t know whether everyone figure out what I want to explicate and present in the video. What I was thinking on the video is that the optical theory and principle. A simple example is reflection. The light come in from the Convex lens of lens, go directly to the Photosensitive element of camera, then imaging. Moreover, the glasses the part is presenting that the camera and lens focal length imaging of the physical principles. Hopes they get my points?

I didn’t expect that, Adrian gave us essay feedback just in minuets after I arrive the class. Yeah I was very nerves, I did care about that. Well finally I got the feedback, it was CR, fine.

Adrian spent a lot of time to mark essays, I can clearly see that he was very serious, he marked almost every paragraphs. All right, be positive, let’s fight for the DI next time. I think I need to go back and try to figure out those marks and notes on my essay from Adrian.

Mirror and the sky

The good news is Nina has done the sound track at the weekend, Joel will edit the sound track, he is a really good sound editor! We all feel confident in him.

Nina will go to NZ on Monday. So Cameo, Joel and me will be responsible for the rest.

Cameo suggested that we could make a time lapse of sky, I like the idea, although it will waste time. But I think only to film the sky changes is not creative and surprised enough, so I suggested that we can use mirror. Because I want to present the Optical principle of camera, let the mirror reflect the sky then we just need to focus on the mirror. We don’t need to film the sky directly.

In our discussion in class, our rough ideas and structure:

For the new sound track, we narrow our subject on the lens. We will record sounds from lens, zoom in and zoom out, set the lens on the camera, break the lens, attention!! All these sound will be recorded from different types and brand (factory or company).

For the video track that we response to the soundscape from German, we are going to do similar thing like the video track. We are going to use different kinds of camera to shoot one subject, with different lens. We want to present that different camera set with couples of lens can do diverse views. Some view are narrow, and some are broader. We think that will be really interesting.

However, Professor Miles give us some suggestions. There is one that I think is very necessary, Adrian mention that our plan about the video track is not good enough. If we shoot on a tree in the garden or anywhere, people’s attention will be attracted by the tree, different kinds of tree under different facilities. What we need to do is to attract people on the list, let them know that our subject is lens or camera, not the tree.
