Presenting the Essay film PB 2 today enabled a space where I could ask the group for specific feedback regarding my subject matter; participants of the Camberwell markets. Collectors. Hobbyists. After the essay film was assembled, I actually went and did a day shoot on Sunday at the markets so this feedback I got from the class was positive because I had in fact collected the kind of material they were interested in seeing more of. I asked the group, what about these people or what they do interests you the most? What would you want to know more of?
Most of them said that they would like to hear more about the objets or the items the participants were collecting. They were interested in the physiology around this addiction of hoarding and what the subjects attitude and relationship is to their collectables and who they are selling too?
Rather than the personal inquiry into the participants lives, I am not moving towards a more object focused study. The collectable, the collector and the history around the item.
Class Feedback – What are they interested in knowing about in regards to my subject?
- How are we making it participatory?
- The history about the first thing that they collected (why did they start collecting that)
- People with really specific collectables, what are they collecting?
- Why they want to sell these things if they like them so much ?
- If every single item is sentimental or are certain things more important than others
- Who are they selling too. are they selling to other hoarders? or other collectors? or other hobbyists ?
- The history of objects and the power of objects
- What is so good about buying old things?
- Think about if I want to keep it in the markets
