Reflections

cropped-th-1-ztc9bg.jpgMonday’s class was another exercise exploring Premiere. This week will definitely be focused on getting on top of this outside class. I spent the class going through the footage from the Abstract shoot and looking at the pros and cons of the shots we shot the previous Friday. My shot was slightly overexposed in the background, next time I would use the ND filter even if the objects in the foreground look slightly darker, this may mean I have a better chance at capturing the details of the sky in the background. We shot some of the steam coming out of these tanks on the way back up to the classroom and this turned out to be the most interesting shot because of the movement of the steam and the way the light enhanced the shapes it made.

I went through and named all the audio and footage files from the last couple of projects and assured myself the that the sooner I bite the bullet and get on top of this the better. I took this studio because I knew I had to get a grasp on these basic techniques and it seems like most of that is going to happen in my own time because there’s so much to cover in class.

The feedback I got on the creative writing was helpful. Paul encouraged me to look at different ways I could express what was happening focusing on shot lists rather than a description of the scene. For example, instead of describing the characters actions with her violin in the practice room, have a shot of the rosin from the bow being illuminated in the light of the sun coming through the window or the lamp (if it’s night time) on top of the piano. Looking at shots to express atmosphere and create place rather than physical descriptions of characters. I look forward to exploring another version of the same scene to explore different ways of informing the action.
