Film 3 The Beginning Goals & (as always)…Desires

With the start of the new Semester, let’s make sure that I keep it legit. House Keeping x

I declare that in submitting all work for this assessment I have read, understood and agree to the content and expectations of the assessment declaration

More and more I am realising the necessity of being able to take the next step with my creative ideas and turn them into something. My background is primarily focused in performance but over the years I have had ideas for scripts and theatrical concepts that I have started but never fully completed. I have had periods of inspiration where I have completed a script or story but where to next? What holds me back, (in my mind) are my technical abilities in pre and post-production. Through this studio, my aim is to develop my technical skills in order to bring some of my pieces to life or at least get a taste of how I might go about starting. Not just think about it, DO IT. Using the classroom environment with experienced supervision and support from other students, I hope to collaborate with others on my creative Ideas as well as theirs in order to build my own confidence in this area.

FullSizeRenderWhen I listened to the pitch last semester for this studio, I thought it would be a good place to start. As an aspiring media maker, I can’t only rely on my creative abilities. I need technical and theoretical understandings if I am to fully develop my ideas. With a good idea for a script, I wouldn’t know how to best set up shots to evoke specific characteristic or ideas about the character. Unless it was a portable I phone, I wouldn’t know how to begin technically. In this studio I hope to get practiced in basic filmmaking techniques and at the same time exploring the theoretical discourses around documentary and fiction filmmaking. What I like about this studio in particular is the attempt to explore the approach to drama as though it were a documentary and vice versa. Through the conscious choice to make either a documentary or a drama, we (sometimes subconsciously) make decisions determinate on our ideas about what that specific mode of filmmaking should be. This studio is going to explore the “preparation and realisation of a drama as though it were a documentary” exploring questions such as, “what if we applied the methodologies of drama production to the making of a documentary? What if we allowed the content and/or our deeper objectives to determine our course, without necessarily making a commitment to one form or the other?”

I’m looking forward to the semester X
