There has been so much talk about the HTML exam, it’s frightening capabilities, unquestionable benefits and the stressful necessity for perfect detail. I know how I was feeling about it: a little worried, but mostly excited to develop the new skill. There were mixed feelings towards it, so why not have a look at what my colleagues thought about it.
Michael was confident in his HTML abilities, after having been exposed to it throughout his education. He touches on Myspace, the outdated ‘must have’ online presence to be cool. In fact, after we’d finished the HMTL exam, Angus and I stumbled across our old pages… let’s just say embarrassing is a kind word in this situation. Anyway, Michael also made a very good point in his post.
I believe understanding HTML and using it semi-regularly can greatly benefit your ability to demonstrate logic, and your problem solving skills.
Meanwhile, Rebecca’s post discussed the immediate relativity of HTML content. She spoke of media convergence in the sense that technology overlaps and interlinks, with TV, Radio, and the Internet, and that hypertext is woven through each. I share this opinion, and to take it one step further, our lives are now coordinated by technology, and to escape is to go live in an Alaskan ice cave.
We bathe ourselves in technology from radio to TV, computers to phones. Yet in contemporary reality there is little distinction between these technologies. You can watch TV on your phone, just as you can listen to the radio on your TV. You can use your TV as a computer and a computer to make audio calls to people in distant locations.
Finally, Nethaniel enjoyed learning HTML and was eager to practice his new skills. Although, a bad luck for him, as he highlights the domination of Apple computers in the University lifestyle.
Great, well not having a Mac this is a little bit of a problem. No worries let’s just try and find an alternative… Little did I know this would be a process and a half to find a decent Windows FTP client that had a full use educational licence for free and after using a couple, the functions were entirely different which made me think… does this mean that I can’t access the 2014.themediastudents server? Is that Fetch only? And to be honest I just rage quit my attempts at getting an FTP client for windows
