Making Sense of Social Media Assignment 2 – Post 3

Devise a social media strategy that explains how you can engage your audience.

With our process of selecting Instagram as the platform of choice, we wanted to increase people’s awareness about online bullying. Considering that the target audiences are teenagers and young adults, we figured that we could design our account as a space where audiences of the targeted age go to read the news; many audiences now get their information from social media rather than the newspaper. Our 4 forms of posts (Static, Carousel, Video, Story) will be posted throughout the week, meaning that there will be new content regularly, thus different ways our users can interact with our content.

Static Posts: Standard square format post that appeals to users who prefer to interact less. The opposite of a carousel, they like to just view/read the post without having to swipe. Many users get discouraged when a post requires them to do more than just read or view the post. Therefore we have decided to include a static post each week with all the information in one slide.

Carousel Posts: The carousel feature allows users to participate with the post, i.e. swiping to see the following image. Carousel posts allow us to upload multiple photos into one upload. This allows us to share more in-depth content without overwhelming our user’s Instagram news feed. For the time being, we have focused on uploading text-based information graphics for our carousel. However, carousel also allows us to incorporate both photo and video together, which we might use in the future.

Video Posts: A series where we interview teenagers and young adults about topics of online bullying. This helps us to appeal to a closer age demographic and generate a strong relationship with our followers; loyal followers.

Story: The Instagram story would allow us to gain primary research about our audience through their engagement with our polls, q&a’s, and many other features the story feature offers us.
