After two weeks of planning, it lives! Project Brief 2 is complete. Be kind!
I tried to create a more playful self portrait this time around, as I felt my last collection of artefacts presented me as too serious and didn’t let all of my quirks shine through. I tried to focus on both what made me unique and made me stand out from the crowd, and what made me belong in this video. After all, I believe identity is not only about what makes you different, but what makes you the same. They are both equally important, and give balance to one another.
I also attempted to create ‘motifs’ / similar shots (as seen through the drawings and successive photos/pseudo stop-motion). I used quick successive editing to keep the video moving along at a relatively quick pace – both due to the duration and the fact that this is how my mind works; quickly. I tried to make the voiceover both like an introduction I’d write online – as I spend a majority of my time on the internet – but also like a conversation. I’m a casual person and felt that having my voice talk the audience through what they were seeing and the facets of my identity that they aligned with would make it seem both more relatable.
Through the editing process I gained more confidence with Premiere, and tried out some different things such as letter boxing that I would usually make use of on Final Cut but had not yet been equipped enough to find and then use. My favourite part of the video is the ‘English’ sequence, as I felt it had a few varied shots and was cut nicely. My least favourite part was probably the pun and ‘dreamer/wanderer’ sequence as it didn’t feel quite right to me, but no matter what I did it didn’t improve. I think perhaps next time having some more backup shots and ideas would be helpful, as well as watching a few more tutorials on the program to become more efficient in my use and thus able to experiment beyond basic editing.
