In media we talk about institutions as bodies that support and protect us.

what defines an institution of media is this:

1. They are enduring
2. They regulate and structure activities
3. They are a collective
4. They develop their own working practices
5. Employs people and are expected to share values
6. Most importantly others recognize them as such
