As with myself everyone in our media one class was forced to share their interviews with the class. We actually had some very interesting results, every bodies portraits were actually very good. In class we were also asked to prepare a peer review for each person in an assigned group, so here are mine.
Adrian Lapiz
Adrian based his video portrait around a friend he had in high school, Brandon, who is now studying to achieve an architecture degree. This Interview was very different to all the other portraits displayed. Adrian’s project brief 3 focused not on Brandon’s life but instead on his relationship to Adrian and how he saw his friend. Despite this the portrait still focused mainly on Brandon’s love of architecture through the years. In terms of positives the stock footage fit exceedingly well with the production and there was a repetition of a box motif in relation to architecture and reflecting Brandon’s favorite style. there were still many things that could be improved though. The audio of the interview was very quiet, the background of the interview itself was in no way professional, nor interesting. The lighting is also quite dark. Despite this, overall the interview was very interesting.
Vanessa Wong
Vanessa Wong produce a really amazing Portrait as well. Ambiguity focuses on a good friend of her’s, Charlotte. This production focuses on Charlotte’s gender and sexuality. The title of the production is actually how Charlotte identifies. The found footage and used in this production is actually taken from an LGBTQ pride parade and sets the piece off with a bang. This Portrait had an interesting subject, excellent lighting and a really great background. This project even features a color theme with the color orange repeated as a deliberate decision by Vanessa. the only thing I can really critisise here is that there isn’t enough stock footage to meet the project brief, but as a piece on its own it is really amazing.
Blair Conway
Blair Created a really interesting piece, it didn’t really resemble an interview portrait, It actually reminded me of our self portraits. It didn’t really have an interview, for the most part the piece consists of stock footage of nature and a little of his subject simply being herself. This was one of the few projects that actually met the required stock footage amount. the footage was good and the music went well with the visuals. however, it still wasn’t interview. my biggest issue with this piece is at the end a title states rest in peace… but the subject isn’t dead… it was cruel.
Matthew Duong
Mathews portrait discusses the life of Tina De Leon. She discusses her dog and her family. Its a very nice portrait, however it didn’t really have a set direction, it wanders a little and I don’t feel like I’m really coming away with any sort of message. I love the dogs (puppies make everything better) and the way her life is documented, the few shots of her coming home and playing with her dog makes the audience identify with the interviewee. However,There is quite a bit of static in the audio, it was a pretty bland background for the interview itself but otherwise it was a really nice portrait.
