“Not light” only exists because light does. It is difficult to film something about lack of light since cameras are all about light. I mean, sure, you can film utter darkness, but that’s not very visually appealing.
I kind of did it anyway.
My first thought was just to cover the camera lens and play Florence and the Machine’s No Light, No Light, but then I decided this wasn’t the best “abstract” piece.
So, instead, I interpreted no light differently. I focused on the sound of places where there are no light. I had two ideas – deep in space, or deep underwater. I didn’t really think space would have a sound (it may, I don’t know), so I chose deep underwater because I can imagine the sound or feeling or sense of enormous pressure. I’m not sure it was all that successful but it was a try… The thought was there.
