Going into this course I was excited to learn some new skills, and I can definitely say I’ve grown as a media maker, enhanced my skills, learned some new techniques, and while I didn’t do them myself I have learned through other peoples projects things that I wanna try for myself.

When watching music videos now I can start to picture how they’re made, the kind of work that had to go into them, where the ideas came from, all things we explored in Project Brief Two. And yet there are still things I look at and I have no idea how they’re made, and I want to know.

This music video is one that was on my mind when I decided to take this course because its one i’ve loved ever since it came out. I think the effects and aesthetics, the styling and editing, everything about this video is so spot on for the song and the artist. Its the video for Taylor Swifts song ‘Out Of Style’.

Some of its easy. The projections and the basic shoots. The two effects that I can’t decipher and would love to be able to incorporate into my work are the images in the mirror and the layering of images within her silhouette.

The mirror thing I can see myself using across all media types. It would be a fantastic effect to use for horror or fantasy movies, to create images where there should be none in a piece of glass or other material.

The images like the smoke rising up through Taylors head while her features are still visible are ones that I would have loved to be able to incorporate into our music video, but editing still isn’t my strong suit and I would have no idea how to even start to go about creating this. I think the way they transitions by having the road lines travel up the males back is a gorgeous transition that could applied to other media types, and is a beautiful effect in and of itself.
