Ahhh summer. The birds are singing, the sky is blue and I’m stuck in a classroom two days out of the week. When the email popped into my inbox telling me about the Semester 3 studio on  Music Video Production I couldn’t say no, even considering it meant sacrificing my long holidays.

My aims for my Media and Communications course are to learn as much as I can in as many different areas as I can. My aspirations are to be a fight choreographer/director and theres no specialised course for that, so I’ve been picking classes based on what I think I’ll like and what might have transferable skills. Music Video Production caught my eye as interesting, and I liked the focus it placed on working with clients and their feedback, as its a very necessary skill in any industry, especially media. Working on directing and editing to music will be helpful I feel, as fight scenes are choreographed to a beat in order to keep time, so I hope this class will help me with my sadly woeful sense of rhythm.

The condensed format of the class was daunting, but I feel like the pressure of producing media in a shorter time frame will be beneficial for me. I may not always have as much time as I’d like to complete a project, and even if I do it will be good to learn how to put together a project in a shorter time span. As media moves more and more online content demands increase. A lot of Youtube channels produce content weekly or even daily if they’re a bigger company. I need to learn to keep up with whats expected in the industry.

I look forward to the challenges this course will bring, such as compromising with a client, working under a stricter deadline, and working in an unfamiliar format.
