Its only as I’m typing this up that I realise both the story pitches I mentioned in my last post involved (attempted) murder. Oh well!

I chose to look at a location for the second one, involving a jogger in the woods, primarily because I live right next to a large reserve where I often go jogging, so Ive spent some time scoping it out wandering what I’d do if someone tried to murder me. Doesn’t everyone?

So here it is, the scene of my almost murder. I chose this particular location in the woods for several reasons. Practically I knew that my scene required several things: proximity to roads, a jogging path and to be out of the way enough that we could take up space with filming without impeding others. This particular spot fit all the requirements.

This particular entrance is tucked away by some side roads and as you can make out in the picture, while there is a road that runs right next to the woods it isn’t necessary to get around, meaning we would be able to take it up with our filming, and park our prop car there. Other concerns would be time of day it was shot. As this is a residential area and there is a school nearby early on a schooldays or in the afternoon could mean a lot of traffic that could interrupt the scene. I also considered the effect that seeing what may appear to be a crime scene could have on gullible joggers, but I think the presence of film equipment should be enough to dissuade any panic. After all, my suburb isn’t exactly a hotbed of crime. However this thought made me consider what happens if a  jogger does wander into the shot. The track is quite popular and this entrance is used fairly frequently and I wouldnt want to stop the shoot for every suburbanite and their pup.

Aesthetically I like the location because of the defined path and tall trees in this particular section of the woods. The straight lines created by this species of pine would make for an interesting composition, especially combined with the sometimes curved or linear path.

With this locations convenient proximity to my house I can see myself actually creating this short film/skit, and besides the obstacles inherent in the setting that I’ve already mentioned I have come up with all the things that need to be taken into consideration. Casting, getting a car, costumes, setting up the shots, which could take multiple days, meaning Id need several days with the same weather conditions in order to preserve continuity, theres a lot that goes into this!

But with the location taken care of I can now focus on one of the most important parts: writing the script!
