Assignment Three: Pre-Production
During the class where we received our groups (I was not in attendance in this class, but I have been filled in by my fellow media students!) and filled in a collaboration worksheet – for me, I was allocated with the writer, which is something that I was interested in doing! I feel as if in the future, I’ll be going into the more pre-production levels of like production (ie: writing and the screening process) rather than being hands-on (although this is something that I am interested in learning! I think going through each process is unique in its own right.).
The writer is one of the most important roles, I mean, without them – no one would be able to watch the shows that they love! I also find the role of the writer can be slightly stressful if you’re writing episodes weekly, where something has to happen continuously. Luckily for us, our idea of a 90s Quiz Show requires me to write some introductory statements and figure out some amazing questions for our contestants to answer.
To make sure that everything goes smoothly, I am making sure that I have a collaborative document in our group google drive so everyone can read the questions and the script, so they can become familiar with the concepts. This is important because everyone not only has an input of the script that we’re producing but making sure that we have different opinions about our live production. Ultimately, the script is my decision, but you don’t want people hating the script that you create! This communication with the director and producer is significant because they’re making the script that I create come alive.
I am excited to see how my script comes to life!
