Development: Translation into Words

For the first component of my Task Four, I asked the recipients of my photography work (seen in the last blog post) to describe what they thought represented the photos, adding to what they noticed to the details of the photography. Although there was an overall ‘theme’ for my photos, I wanted the individuals to also develop their own ideas about noticing and the media. I split the group of six up into three given the colour photos and three given the black and white photos. Although I have not discussed the nature of colour and the media before, I thought it would be interesting to discuss further and see if individuals notice different aspects of the media and whether this affects their judgment on noticing (I did not send both photos to the same individual as they might re-evaluate based on the other photos). I judged this knowledge under the same umbrella term, as I thought this would be the best way to express the individual’s feelings about the media pieces presented.

From this, I not only gathered the way that individuals make connections to different images through a general theme (in this case, I was going for ‘urbanism’) but how individuals make both general and concise remarks when given different prompts – linking to the focal points, which I will explore in my next task for Media Two and how the ‘overarching theme’ that is presented through my photography, how it influences people based on their prior experiences and the preconceived notions of the themes.
