Self Portrait.
My whole photography and media career, I have been taught to edit. Whether this be editing photos or videos before they are put up on social media, or just for my own safe keeping so when our first project brief came along, to be honest, I felt it was out of my comfort zone. I am a) not use to shooting these type of photos on my smartphone (I have a DSLR) and b) Putting photos in lightroom and photoshop to tweak the lighting or the contrast just a slight bit to emphasise the focal point in the photo (s) is in my comfort zone. Editing is something that I thoroughly enjoy although, with this task, I have also been enjoying not editing photos and allowing the camera (my iPhone seven plus – which I have found a new appreciation for the “raw” smartphone photograph) to do the work for me. daunting, I know. I worked on this both in the workshop this week and at home.

“A Regular”
There is something so calming about being a regular.
It’s like wandering through a crowd and seeing a familiar face,
With softly spoken music around a campfire,
And hearing the laughs of those you love.
Being a regular is making a commitment.
An unspoken word of promise,
A dedication;
To hear the same songs being played over the radio
And to hear the familiar buzz of the coffee grinder from the barista (who, naturally, knows your order by heart).
Just another home away from home.
Self Portrait – An Explanation
With this self-portrait, I was hoping to convey both my importance of family, my love of fashion and my personality. Some may say my personality is very “black and white” – which means I am driven when I want to be, but there is no room for budging if I am not focused on the task at hand (hence the photo of the chess board). My love of travel (even if it is outside of the “free tram zone”) is shown in photo one and five. Family and feeling ‘at home’ is one of the key aspects in my life, as I tried to explain in both my text piece and with the photo of the family heritage room in the State Library (photo two). All three videos and Audio Three represent my love of travel and different cultures.
I found this task particularly challenging because I have been unable to edit, however, I have also found it incredibly rewarding. For next time, I would take more time in the audio segments (I found this challenging as I am a visual learner).
