Live Report: James Blake @ The Palais

Live Report: James Blake @ The Palais

The night ended appropriately with the entire Palais Theatre joined in standing ovation, desperately trying to give the musician in front of them the level of applause he deserved. James Blake might’ve left us speechless, but it’s a performance that’ll be talked about for a long time to come.

During the week I was lucky enough to review James Blake’s Splendour sideshow for Tone Deaf. It was easily the best gig I’ve been to this year, and sits comfortably in my top three gigs of all time. Yes, all time, in a Kanye voice and everything. Check out the full review here.

It has to be said that I didn’t really understand the massive hype behind this guy when his debut self-titled album became the holy grail of the blogosphere in 2011. But then his sophomore record Overgrown came out earlier this year and I finally started to ‘get’ it. Cultural FOMO kicked in and next thing I know, I’m giving the man a standing ovation at the end of his show at The Palais and I’m very, very close to shedding a tear. I don’t know how it happened, but my love for James Blake blossomed out of nowhere and has since (Over)grown into a dangerously real obsession. Deep breaths, fanboy, deep breaths.
