Project Brief 3 was another exercise where I was battling myself, in a lot of ways. It is clear to me that my organisation skills need to improve if I am to succeed in the media industry in any capacity, and that I must continue to create and learn from the mistakes I made. I had difficulty having to work around another person’s commitments for my filming schedule, as delays in shooting meant I had less leeway with mistakes. I chose my boss, Mark Penaluna, as the subject of my video. I did this not realising how little time he would have to spend on a university project during preparation for a match day, giving me less time to work with him and explain what I wanted from him and give him enough directorial feedback. I don’t think I quite created the project I initially imagined due to this. I found that once I gathered all my footage, it was difficult to use it to create one coherent representation. This can be avoided in the future by not filming so late in the process, and also allowing multiple sessions if possible. That being said, I did enjoy the editing portion of this exercise. Tying together some of the thoughts over 20 minutes of filming into a 2 minute video to create this narrative was a rewarding experience for me, and proved to be a challenge. Another discovery I made was that I later found myself thinking of ideas on how to improve certain improvised shots after completing the filming, which frustrated me to some degree. When doing this style of filming I should take the time, even if it’s just one minute of thinking about my surroundings, to find the best possible way of presenting that idea/subject/image. It certainly would have created more interesting visuals and depicted the ideas of what I was trying to present in a more clear fashion

I was raised as a lover of films, becoming enamoured with worlds presented on the silver screen in 'Star Wars' and 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' before I had even entered Kindergarten. This is what first got me interested in pursuing media studies, but I hope to expand my knowledge beyond film through what RMIT can teach me.
