On Sunday, the production for my New Doc project ‘The Great Ocean Ride’ was completed. Me and my partner Bliss had locked in this date 3 weeks earlier, as we needed to secure an entire day for filming two cyclists we selected for our non-linear documentary. While our two cyclists rode from Torquay to Lorne in the early morning, me and Bliss made our way along the Great Ocean Road collecting footage of the phenomenal attraction in different ways in and outside our car. Some amazing shots and views were found.
We then met our two cyclists, Michael and Keir, in Lorne. From there we collected a lot of footage, mainly interviews(with a Nikon DSLR and Zoom recorder) and shots of them taking part in the social side of cycling. Finally, we filmed them by tracking their cycling on the Great Ocean Road from our car. This was very interesting, but worked effectively as we were able to get footage from on their side with the Ocean as a backdrop behind them. A number of shots from behind as they went round corners have potential too. More sounds were collected using the Zoom HD5 to use as atmos, such as the sound of waves. We then ate some lunch and headed home with all the footage we needed. It was an extremely successful day, made even more enjoyable with the brilliant weather and company by the beach.
We plan on using all this footage to make numerous clips in the program ‘Korsakow’ with straight interviews, montages and other footage(go pro footage, DSLR footage) with both atmos and interview voiceovers in the background at different points. We also have usable old footage from past projects this semester such as a time-lapse of Michael cleaning and fixing his bike. From here, with all this footage collected, it is all about sorting and cutting our videos/recordings into different lengths and assembling our Korsakow product in an understandable and simple manner.
We have also started exploring an option for our title screen, as shown below. Could we possibly give the audience the choice of Keir or Michael to explore with one preview leading in each direction?
