Following heavy brainstorming and discussions about our project based around the topic ‘texts’ in our first few meetings, my group for this assessment first decided to focus on advertising, and how these ‘texts’ show meaning and influence audiences. We planned to make a remix of found footage. We made our aim to demonstrate how context can greatly affect the reading of a text. Furthermore, we planned to track the progression of media texts based around smoking and how their contention had been changed over time. Through a “mash-up” we wanted to show the constant and variable images of the smoking in advertising texts. I have included a snippet of our work, which we completed first as a preview. Our plans have changed quite since this stage however so the final product may be different. The preview is a mash-up of two smoking advertisements from different era’s.
