Of the number of questions raised at the symposium, the one I found most intriguing was;
‘How much freedom do we have when writing critically of others or others’ work before we become liable for defamation or copyright infringement?’
I did a little research (a simple google search) and found this link.
I was, however, a little confused about the final point, regarding defence.
‘There are several defences to defamation, including that the statement was true, or that it was an expression of an honest opinion.’
An expression of honest opinion? So, if, in your honest opinion you believe that XYZ is a smelly, stupid, ugly bum-face who partakes in regular random vandalism at libraries, you can write as much on your blog? As long as it’s of your honest opinion?
Hmmmm….
