About Me

Before I start blogging about the course’s ideas and key concepts, I thought I’d take a moment to explain a little about myself and provide a little snapshot of what intrigues me and what gets me excited.

First and foremost I am a pop culture fiend, and I like to view myself as a student of pop culture. From studying the work of Andy Warhol to the material of the top 40 musicians now, I am obsessed with looking at the zeitgeist of past and present and considering how it has influenced all aspects of life from fashion and technology to music and art. I also love seeing how historical events can ignite movements which can completely permeate the way we collectively behave and think as a society. I think it is also a very interesting process to project what could revolutionize the way we lead our lives, much like the way Steve Jobs did with his technology.

“Pop music will never be low brow” – Lady Gaga

I am a complete and utter addict of television, and I usually find myself filling up any spare time I have with catching up on the latest episodes of my favourite shows, which can range quite drastically from brilliantly produced series like Breaking Bad, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Offspring to the slightly more trashy shows like Glee and The O.C.

Lastly, I am a definite music lover and while I wish I could say I had a more alternative taste in music I can’t seem to veer away from the infectiousness of pop and dance music. Don’t get me wrong I still enjoy listening to artists that may not be so radio like Amy Winehouse, Lana Del Rey and Sia, but when pop music is done well there is nothing more I like listening to, especially music from my queens Beyoncé and Lady Gaga.
