This week’s two readings focused upon the constructs of networks both coming from different angles. However, Chris Anderson’s article ‘The Long Tail’ featuring on Wired, really intrigued me as it discussed the value of networked societies from a financial and business standpoint.
The point that stood out most to me was when Anderson how the digital age of online shopping has revolutionised the longevity of a products shelf life as there is no physical space to commodify and therefore an item be it a book or a song can remain for however long it takes for the product to permeate through the popular conscious, as opposed to being taken off shelves if it does not instantly provide financial benefits to people running stores.
