This year’s VMA’s have wrapped up and they have certainly provided us with many jaw dropping moments to talk / tweet / facebook / blog about. Here are the highlights of the show.
- Lady Gaga opened the show with a spectacular performance of her new single ‘Applause‘, squashing any doubts that Lady Gaga is back as she changes her costume not once, not twice… but 5 times all during her 4 minute performance.

- It was Justin Timberlake’s night as he was presented with ‘Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award’, marking the occasion with a 15 minute performance which covered all of his endless hits including a reunion with his former boy band NSYNC. Timberlake also took home the biggest award of the night, the ‘Video of the Year‘ for his music video for Mirrors.

- Lady Gaga stormed out of the show early in outrage as a result of One Direction being booed while they collected their award for ‘Song of the Summer’, but not before she met them backstage to impart some advice. Watch the video below too here Gaga’s words of encouragement, all conveniently caught on camera.
- And of course the jaw dropping performance everyone was talking about, Miley Cyrus twerking and grinding against Robin Thicke proving to the world well and truly she is no longer Hannah Montana. While we have all gotten some great laughs out of this and some even better GIFs, some really thoughtful conversation about the social implications of this performance including discussions about ‘slut shaming’ and the heavily racial undertones of Miley’s new look has emerged. I read a particularly striking blog post about this performance from an amateur blogger who has garnered some attention from her very wise and thought provoking words. Have a read of the post here.
