Reading: Slogans for the screenwriter’s wall. In Mackendrick, A. On film-making, (p. 40-43). New York: Faber & Faber, 2004.
- I was quite interested when the reading was discussing the varying different relations that directors have with actors, especially in regard to how much knowledge of the film making process in which the director prefers the actor to have. I was thinking about what style I would potentially like for my actors when directing and I feel that I would prefer to have the actor quite conscious of how they are coming off on screen and quite in control of the how their actions will be materialised, yet be able to have the ability to hide this knowledge in their expressions.
- I found the helpful hints at the beginning of the reading so incredibly helpful, especially the point that 60 to 80 per cent of the story being conveyed should be comprehendible even if it is in a foreign language, as it highlights the importance of visual communication in a quite a grabbing way.
