Learning

The moment that I’ve dreaded since the introduction of this blog has come to pass. Adrian has read, linked to, and commented on one of my posts.

This one.

When I saw my name, I was immediately besieged by an odd mix of unbridled triumph and mind-numbing terror. My blog had shown its first sign of life! It was being read, critiqued, consumed! What would he say? Would he prefer the Siskel & Ebert ‘thumbs’ system, or would he instead opt for the tried and true David & Margaret “stars” method? So many questions!

Here’s what he wrote.

Honestly, my first feeling was one of disappointment. I had struggled with the reading, and it was clear from Adrian’s post that I had misinterpreted it. But that’s Model I, innit? So I finished reading, and reflected on what he had said. A specific way that I learn is through reducing complex ideas into bite-sized analogies (an imperfect method, unquestionably), and Adrian had done just that in his post, playing on the ‘walking’ concept I had initially hypothesised. His words allowed me to view the whole concept of ‘double loop learning’ in a new way, and I finally understood it.

Although I was undoubtedly pleased that I could grasp a concept most others did a week ago, I was more impressed with the effectiveness of this blog. It’s fantastic to see Adrian frequently commenting and reflecting on our posts – it’s clear that he’s genuinely interested, and I’m finding myself gravitating more and more towards the blog in boring, between-class moments.

Sort of a nothing post, but I wanted to show my appreciation for this unconventional course. It’s working for me.
