Bottle Rocket: Final Presentation & Reflection

Bottle Rocket: Final Presentation & Reflection

Our Final Presentation! Finally!

It’s weird to say, but all of us agreed, this was the most I have ever looked forward to giving a presentation while at RMIT. We were all really proud of our work, and of the presentation itself – we felt like we had a heap of pre-production and production materials to show off, and we were just so proud of how far we’d come since our decidedly lackluster Week 7 pitch.

I’d felt a little useless in the post-production process, so I took it upon myself to put together a rough running sheet of our presentation. I’d been quite disappointed with the lack of preparation and effort that went into our pitch (we didn’t even have a PowerPoint, dammit!), so I was determined that we were going to put something together that showed off our work, while sticking closely to the 15 minute time limit we were given (I was a bit of a time nazi this week, it has to be acknowledged).

Our work and planning came together really well – everyone had their jobs to do, their little speeches to write, and I reminded everyone (too many times) to keep their talks to the lengths I’d provided. There was a slight spanner thrown into the works when Steph finished editing and revealed the length of the videos – 3 minutes for Martin alone. I adjusted the lengths of the talks, cutting myself down to accommodate their inclusion, and I think that on the day, we hit 15 minutes pretty perfectly, with a nice balance between showing work and talking about our process.

I’ll post a more in-depth reflection on our work and the course, but I thought that our presentation represented how far our group came in a few weeks. We really did embrace our collaborative spirit, and the journey was marked by how we all got along, without a single spat or whinge from anyone about any element of the work. When problems came up (battery charge, actors not contacting us, etc.) we overcame them, and instead of abandoning certain features, such as Jess’s segment on Liam, we tried to still incorporate them in our final product, by including a section of our auditions, and giving Jess’s work some of the screen-time that it deserves.
