I spent the majority of this week planning out a moodboard for my final video piece. It is something I’ve done a few times with music and sound work but I had never done it for any media projects, so it was a good thing to experiment with. The composition of my video piece is centred around the transportation of space through different people listening to the radio, so my moodboard was a good place to experiment with different styles of shots and locations for the video. The most challenging element in the planning stage of this video is to narrow down what locations I want to focus on, taking into account the multiple shooting days that will be needed.
I’ve tried to create scenarios that could realistically be achieved rather quickly and potentially within a single shot. Trying to minimise edits in this video I think will be an effective tool to bring the audience into the world. Something that I want to explore in this video is the line between real and unreal, cinematic and organic, which Robin has talked about over the semester and is something I think can be achieved in this video. By emphasising the world of each location and shot, removing scripting and just having simple actions, or in some instances no action at all, should create a realistic style of video with hopefully cinema quality images.
I think ultimately this is an experiment of a concept I find really intriguing and so I’m less concerned with how the final product looks, what I think is most important is how the combination of shots and location changes that are transitioned through diegetic music via the radio creates a feeling for the viewer. I may not look back on this video in the future and like all the shots that come out of it or the lighting of a certain shot, but my main goal is to have the proof of concept realised that I could potentially expand or experiment with at a later point.
