A man sits on a stool at the back of the stage, dressed wonderfully in a colourful, sunset skyline printed sweater and tan khakis, topped off with pitch black aviators that consumed a large portion of his face. The clothing gave him a powerful sense of confidence, but he looked just like any other person sitting on that stool, on his phone. He was selecting music to play before his show started, which included “Number One” by Paul Williams, and nothing else. Was this part of his comedy performance? This moment lasted for at least 15 minutes, with the audience pouring into the crowded room, with each new patron unsure if they were arriving late to the show, a fear that consumes a great many attendees of a comedy show.

He stood for a time, drinking some water, making what could only be assumed as aggressive eye contact with the audience through his glasses, though his eyes were hidden from sight. He would walk over to his phone and sit back onto the stool, shifting back to the beginning of the song again, approximately for the 5th time now. This action drew confused and muffled laughter, expressed almost entirely by a large exhale through the nose, from the audience that had been in the room the longest, greatly confusing the new patrons what were not in on the joke.
