Colour grading is the final step of the editing process and something our whole group was not looking forward to what we saw as a daunting task. I had done some colour grading on videos in the past but I’ve never really had any idea on what I was doing besides toggling colour wheels and colour curves trying to find something that I liked.
It was great to have Rohan go through the key elements to look for and ideas to maintain with colour grading, mainly to have consistency between shots and to flatter the actors and settings to make them as appealing as possible, which is something I’ve never really thought about in the past.
Our video was quite difficult to colour grade as we had a lot of coloured lighting so our job was more to maintain a certain colour consistency throughout those scenes. Another challenge we encountered in our video was due to the montage-esque nature of our video, it was difficult to soften the sharp cuts between scenes that have complete different lighting setups and colour palettes to make it a lot more pleasant for the audience.
