Why am I doing this class? Voluntarily I might add?!
I think the key reason I wanted to pursue music video production is that it seemed like a good mixture things I am familiar with, working closely with music and creating a video to accompany it, and yet something that is uniquely different as it is a medium where I have no control over the sound or music.
At first that sounds easy, just a few less things to worry about. But that is where I feel most comfortable, creating soundscapes and music to accompany a visual, so with making a music video none of that is available to me, which is exactly why I think I chose this class.
This class over the next month or so will hopefully take me out of my comfort zone and have me rely on using the purely visual space to capture an audience, which sounds strange as this is for a music video but that is definitely how I feel, as there is no sound design or my own music accompanying the video, so my focuses can be elsewhere.
“I didn’t make music videos in order to make a movie. Music videos were the goal for me, so it was never a step to something else. I approached it seriously.” – Anton Corbijn.
