The Yarra River in 20, 30 Years Time

Bulb Timlapse city

Setting the DSLR on bulb and exposing the night skyline in multiple angles on a horizontal axis, each 10 seconds per frame, I inadvertently developed a prophetic vision of the Yarra River in 20, 30 years from now.

This became the impetus for me to explore how the users of the river and its banks feel about the Yarra’s future.

Are people worried for the fate of the river? Can they suggest methods of conservation? Can they picture the river in a time before colonialism? Does anybody really know what time it is?? Does anybody really care???

  1. Hey Dan,
How’s your plan going? Who are your intended participants? Could you find people that might have different vested interests in the Yarra from the commercial to the recreational to the spiritual etc.. as a way to explore history, present and future? You could weave in general punters with people who have a closer connection to it for example. Have you thought about what the project might look like?

    • Great suggestion! I’ve already interviewed one of the boat captains, he says everything is ‘fine’ and the Yarra is better :/ , then 2 punters who said that it’s fucked and getting worse! These interviews will be fairly prominent in the essay teaser.
My next step is to contact The Koori Heritage Trust at Fed Square but I might save this for the next project brief.
      Cheers Kim!
      D 🙂
