Drawing closer to the end of the semester means we’ve moved away from the technicalities of shooting and started to focus a bit more on editing. By the time we finish shooting we will hopefully have amassed a significant amount footage which means we’ll have to be particularly critical about what gets included and what gets culled. When reviewing our footage there’ll be a couple of things we look out for, including:
- Moments that affect you – either intellectually or emotionally
- Emotion/tension/opposition
- Look for links and transitions
- Be aware of the energy levels of the interview subject
- Be a viewer as well as a storyteller
- Meaning and emphasis
We then continued to workshop our interview questions, after considering the following points:
- In what order should you show cause and effect?
- How does the film imply someone or something has grown or changed?
- Does the story show that someone has learned or something has happened?
A few of the questions we came up with were:
- Introduction: tell us a bit about yourself
- Where are you from? Can you tell us about why you moved to Melbourne?
- How did you get into skating? Do you feel that skating has helped shape who you are – your identity?
- Have you faced any challenges as a female trying to break into such a male-dominated culture?
- How does being a part of the skating community make you feel a sense of belonging here in Melbourne?
- How is the skating culture in Melbourne similar or different to where you’re from?
- Show us your gnarliest scars, injuries?
- Important – Can you talk to us about the community of women you have met skating here in Melbourne?
- Why do you come to Riverslide? (is it for the community)
- Do you think you’ll stay in Melbourne for much longer?
