PROJECT BRIEF 2

Class Reflection

From class in week three I’ve come to realise that the creative process isn’t just a matter of having a creative head on your shoulders. From the exercise we have done regarding writing ideas for stories that would appear well on screen it’s become obvious that you need to have an idea of the filmmaking process to be able to have a creative idea that’s worth anything. In a way I find this comforting as, although I don’t particularly struggle with the creative side of things, it helps to build confidence in my own ability to write or even just put down ideas that can relate to audiences through the film medium. It also helps the process of getting ideas down and making that blank page not look so daunting in the beginning.

We spoke about the ideas of story creating that were discussed and used in Film-TV 1 and how such a structured way of creating; having a protagonist, that protagonist comes across a problem/is searching for something, isn’t always the best way of making film and how it can sometimes limit the creativeness or direction a film may take. I think this is very accurate as it can limit the avenues you may want to end up exploring towards the end of the project and can also limit you to certain predictable genres. I like the idea of being able to explore the smallest idea/event/genre by expanding from one concept or character without limits or confines to what needs to happen within the story.
