Splot
Splot is my term for the confusion and often merging of plot and story. Plot is the sequence of the narrative, where story is the sequence of the actual events happenings. I did a little bit of work on this in one subject last year, and it is still mind baffling to myself.
Adrian’s shooting example in the unlecture was good, as it emphasises that an engaging narrative does not necessarily mean filling in all aspects. Not just thriller movies and books have these gaps- many romance and classic novels and films follow this clever method. By creating a more disjointed narrative, it becomes more open to intepretation to the audience, therefore more engaging and fulfilling.
