Today our tutorial consisted of sharing progress on our Project Brief 4 productions.
What was so helpful in the class environment was the way it allowed other members to contribute ideas. Whilst we have a sound idea at the moment that we are progressing on (a mockumentary discussing the role of social media in activism), Brian’s additions have given us some extra ideas.
He pointed out that it would be helpful to the artifact if we added some academic voices. Considering our project was a mockumentary (a fictional film shot in the form of a documentary), this was something I was beginningly hesitant about doing. However, I then considered the way academic and opinion-voices were presented in the new Batman V Superman teaser trailer that was just released online.
The teaser begins with a variety of voices and opinions from different “news” sources around the country. They are compiled together in a format where whilst we may only hear one sentence from an interview at a time, it immediately establishes the context of the world within 20 to 30 seconds.
For example, one voice that can be heard is Lex Luthor’s saying ‘devils don’t come from hell beneath us, they come from the sky’. Here, the context of an environment of great debate on Superman’s residency on earth is established for the audience.
This is something that I can imagine fitting perfectly in our project brief. Considering the role of social media in activism is so hotly debated, it would be great to do a vox-pop with various people around the city providing their own opinion.
When this is edited together, it could be a thoroughly engaging, intense and effective way to establish the environment of our project.
