The course of the third week is more like an exercise in lens language for me.Like Robin said it can be very instructive to compare scenes from different films, by different filmmakers, that share the same kinds of locations, circumstances or dramatic conditions. My understanding is that different producers, in the same location, but each movie expresses different effects, which forms the producer’s unique lens language.Just like a sign, when you encounter this type of lens coverage, which filmmaker do you think of.I looked back at the two movie clips played in class, which made me want to try to imitate the dialogue in “The Fire Within”. I usually shoot conversation scenes, the most used lens is the switch between mid-range and close-ups like in “Gossip Girl”. The mid-shot is shot over the shoulder. This shooting technique is very conventional. But the dialogue scene in “The Fire Within” broke the convention. At least 6 shoots were used for this dialogue scene. But I think this kind of dialogue shooting method is only for two people. If there are many people participating in the conversation, and there are many screens that need to be switched, it will make this segment look messy. And this kind of shooting is very difficult for me to succeed at once.Because I need to find a good composition of the shoot.
