“We are storytellers with sound,” said Jack Foley.
In week 3, the course once again brings an unobserved but incredibly important film post-production technique, Foley. The demand for foley sound is that when the ambient sound in some scenes is too noisy or the radio engineer cannot record such audio, the foley engineer will use the equipment around him or even daily necessities to restore/simulate the scene that should appear. For example, it is mentioned in class that the sound of rainy days may be created by the Foley artist using the sound of frying bacon. Or in a fight scene, the sound of someone breaking a bone is actually using the sound of celery being broken to restore the sound in our impression. A good voice or a Foley with a high degree of reduction will successfully introduce the audience into the world of the movie.
In my assignment, the tough challenge would be the simulation of the sound of the equipment, nevertheless, the sound could be created from current the machine that I have at home.
