The clip starts off with a music video that was made as a tribute to Dahlia. In that 30 seconds, there were a lot of non-diegetic sound inserted in the sequence such as birds chirping, sound of car’s engine, scarf being blown by the wind and even sounds of wind blowing Dahlia’s abaya. This functions as an enhancement of a dramatic approach until a female journalist, Rana Husseini’s voice crashes in stating that the dramatised re-enactment scene is not true. This sudden interuption also helps to garner the audience’s attention even more.
Broinowski also implements audio effects into her film such as chime sound, cash register sound and camera shutter. These sounds were used as transitions of scenes. For instance, when Rana introduce the book as an insult to all Muslim women, and then it cuts in to a still image of the book accompanying with a bell sound (0:35 – 0:37).
In one section, the scene where it was to emphasize and explore the the truth, it starts off with Rana reading a phrase from the book and then the the audio overlaps into Normal reading the same phrase from the book and eventually Rana’s voice disappear from there. After finishing reading a section from the book, the scene goes on into where the Rana disapproves the message by proving through phone calls and vox pox. In the scene where Rana and the filmmakers explore the truth, a light energetic music was played to represent ‘adventure’ and elevate the audience’s mood. Before exploring a section, Broinowski have Norma’s voice reading another passage from the book as a voice-over before Rana explains her side of her story.
